Vampire Pager Cartoon

Hey. What’s up?

I know I have not posted a cartoon for a while. But now here is one. You know, October is a spooky month. Some people like to hear or watch horror stories and see some creepy visual arts. Well, this cartoon probably does not scare you at all. But I hope it makes you smile, chuckle, or laugh. Let’s have a Halloween spirit! Booo!

Deafless Cartoon

Wow! What a big controversy! People in the Deaf video network community - especially the Deafvideo website - have been talking about a startling video made by theHolism. TheHolism described himself as "deafless". What?? A new term invented by himself. People love to agree and disagree with him. All the sudden, people are starting to make their videos to discuss "Deafless". And some of them even talk about it in the Visual Video website. What's up with that?? Instead of making a vlog about Deafless, I drew a cartoon with 2 characters for fun. Ken X is one of the characters.

Enjoy the cartoon. Peace out.

Interpreting Zebra Cartoon

I am an animal lover. Currently, I take care of 2 cats. I used to have a variety of pets—hamsters, salamanders, lizards, turtles, snakes, frogs/toads, dog (My father was the master; I lived under his roof.), and fish. They were a part of my childhood. I usually went out into a wilderness and confronted animals. Yes, it had to do with my deafness simply because I didn't hang out with hearing children much (No hard feeling. I had a few hearing friends, though). My love for animals naturally led me to draw more pictures of them. There is another reason why I love drawing cartoons with animal characters—less burden on deciding what race I should pick for human characters. I let you interpret cartoony animals as human beings whatever. Peace.

Relay Service & Billiards Cartoons

The owner of T.S. Writing Services asked me to create a cartoon for New Jersey Relay Service. I gladly completed this assignment (above).

I think I did this billiards cartoon for Silent News years ago.

Enjoy these cartoons

Terp Remote Control & Mike Tyson Cartoons

Hello.

Don't we wish we could have the control of selecting interpreters?

Would it be cool if a famous person knew ASL? Movie stars? Professional athletes? President Obama? You know, Mike Tyson is infamous for biting off a piece off of Evender Holyfield's ear. Imagine how frightening Mike would be if he signed "bite".

On a serious note: I have sympathy for Mike Tyson whose 4-year-old daughter died after a terrible accident. My heart goes out on his family. May God comfort you, Mike.

Two Cartoons (Late)

Hello!

I was supposed to post my cartoon last Thursday. But I didn’t do it. Sorry. My bad. I think I was tired last week from being very busy at my job and not having a good night’s sleep. But now 2 cartoons are here.

I am a big fan of MMA fighter Matt Hamill. I first knew him years ago as a great RIT wrestler and a Deaflympics gold medalist. A few years ago, to my delight, I got to watch him as a contestant on a reality television show called The Ultimate Fighter. I drew a cartoon about Matt forgetting to do something before starting his wrestling in the Deaflympics.

I used to create cartoons about sports for Silent News years ago before that publication went out of business. When I did cartoons, I thought of diversity. And I still do. I like the idea of having characters of color and women. And I am into animal characters. In ’80s and ’90s we used to have hearing dogs for the deaf people. I remember that deaf people with hearing dogs had rights to go anywhere just like blind people and people with disabilities now do with their dogs. What about a basketball court?

Happy Mother's Day Cartoon

Hey. Happy Mother’s Day!

Here is a cartoon I drew for SIGNews in 2008. Seeing new cards with sound at Wal Mart prompted me to think of a new card with American Sign Language (ASL). Real, animated live American Sign Language. Why not! Chuckling. By the way, that character in the cartoon is my mother. Again, Happy Mother’s Day.

UFO Backing Off Cartoon

Here is a cartoon that I drew and submitted to SIGNews. Yes, it was published not a long ago. I believe it was in its November 2007 issue. I picked that watercolor cartoon because it made me think of a recently controversial term – audism. What does it mean? According to Tom Humphries, audism is “the notion that one is superior based on one’s ability to hear or behave in the manner of one who hears.” I like his awesome quote. Basically with my understanding, audism means prejudice or discrimination against deaf people by hearing or even deaf people. Lately, there have been hot issues about Deafies experiencing discrimination, oppression, and inequality. So how is that term related to my cartoon? Well, this cartoon does not exactly indicate audism. But just for fun, I questioned an UFO’s attitude toward a deaf earthling. When one of ladies in that cartoon was abducted by that unknown flying object, a frightened deaf lady made a gesture showing that she was deaf and could not hear. The UFO was startled by her signs and suddenly freed that lady. Incredibly, the UFO just left and disappeared without hurting her or abducting her. Why did the UFO let her go? Simply because she was deaf? Was the UFO treating or seeing her differently due to her deafness? Did the UFO feel that a hearing person was better to kidnap?? Audism? You be the judge. Lol.

Hope you enjoy this cartoon. Peace—Shawn

You Deaf Too?

Hey. What’s up?

A few days ago I got a videophone call from a deaf cartoonist. Yes, that Deaf cartoonist – the one who literally owns “That Deaf Cartoonist”. His name is Matt Daigle. He posts his cartoon in his blog every week. And his new cartoon is published in SIGNews every month. Matt and I knew each other from NTID/RIT. Anyway we had a very good talk about cartoon things on vp. He encouraged me to keep posting my cartoon or any drawings weekly. Naturally I agreed with Matt. After he mentioned one of my cartoons that he particularly liked, I thought it would be cool to show you one here.

1-year Anniversary of Absence

Hey. What’s up? Wow. The last time I made a blog here was exactly one year ago. I am coming back here to celebrate my 1-year absence of not using my blog. My bad. Why did I stop posting my cartoons? I don’t know. I think www.DeafRead.com and www.DeafVideo.tv made me neglect my personal blog and personal tasks. Alright! I should not finger-point at them. I admit that I have been addicted to DeafVideo for more than 1 year. I check out that dynamic ASL video networking site almost everyday. It beats watching tv shows! Anyway, I decided to return to srid4fun.blogspot.com and give it another try. I have many old cartoons I made for deaf-related publications in the past. I want to make a good use of them. Why not. Here are 2 cartoons. Enjoy them.

Many thanks for checking out my blog. Peace.
